ExpressVPN is the oldest VPN player in the market. With more than 10 years of experience, ExpressVPN is an experienced company that has already gone through a lot of development on their products over the years. ExpressVPN offers alot of features and is a very mature VPN provider. ExpressVPN has a global network of servers and offers a very stable VPN worldwide. The iOS offers some features like Split tunneling, always on and blocking of malware.

ExpressVPN doesn’t offer a free version so if you want to try the app you have to buy to a subscription. Keep in mind that you have a possibility for a 30 day not got money back guarantee. Here is an interface impression:

We have extensively tested the ExpressVPN iOS application. All the applications we tested worked seamlessly. Think of news sites, games, Netflix, sports apps, Spotify, 9gag, banking, Hotels.com and booking.com. ExpressVPN comes with features like Private DNS, the Lightway protocol and the blocking of trackers and malicious websites.

What we see is that good speeds and stable connections can be achieved across all locations. ExpressVPN has the following features:

ExpressVPN pricing

ExpressVPN is alot more expensive compared to NordVPN Surfshark. If it’s worth it depends a little bit on your needs and how much you use the VPN. If you are an alway’s on user we definitly recommend ExpressVPN or NordVPN.

NordVPN is one of the major players in the VPN market. With almost 10 years of experience, NordVPN is an experienced company that has already gone through a lot of development on their products over the years.

NordVPN doesn’t offer a free version so if you want to try the app you have to buy to a subscription. Keep in mind that you have a possibility for a 30 day not got money back guarantee. Here is an interface impression:

We find the app easy to use and fast if you don’t have any specific needs. However for specific purposes like Torrenting you need to connect to specific specialty servers. It is not very clear in the app when you need to use the specialty servers. The application has some features like always on, DNS protection and dark web monitor. Compared to the Android application is missing some features like DNS protection, tapjacking protection, the kill switch and split tunnel feature.

Here we have summarized some pros and cons of using the NordVPN application:

The subscription pricing is a bit more expensive compared to Surfshark but overall we find it worth it.

Surfshark iOS application review

4.4/5

Based on 350 reviews in the Apple app store

Surfshark is an excellent VPN provider. Surfshark is a relative newcomer to the market and has built an impressive global network of VPN servers in a very short time. The apps simplicity is a big plus in terms of userfriendlyness for non technical people. Also if you want to use the more advanced features like Cleanweb, multihop support and static IPs. You can just use.

Here is an interface impression:

Surfshark pros and cons

Surfshark has a worldwide network of VPN servers and locations. The interface is very easy to use, you can search a location you want to connect to and just press the connect button and your ready to go.

If you are a more advanced user you can specify the VPN protocol you want to use i.e. WireGuard, IKEv2 and OpenVPN UDP/TCP. You can also leave it on automatic. The app lets you use features like the kill switch, auto-connect and ad and malware blocking.

Features like whitelisting (split tunnel feature based on applications) or override your GPS location are not available on iPadOS.

Best VPN for iOS Conclusion

We have reviewed the VPNs of ExpressVPN, NordVPN and Surfshark on iOS. We have seen good results. All the VPN providers have a good worldwide network with servers in alot of locations. However there are some differences for example in speeds, the support of streaming service and features like multihop, static IP support and mallware blocking.

ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN delivers a very good VPN. Pricewise is this the most expensive VPN. However ExpressVPN delivers a very stable, a fast VPN on a worldwide scale. The speeds on streaming services and the availability of those services on a worldwide scale is impressive. The iPad application of ExpressVPN is not very feature rich but is characterized in the stability and good service that is behind it. We where expecting features like always on, the kill switch, split tunnel, etc, so it’s disappointing to not see those features within the app.

NordVPN
The NordVPN laks some important features on iPadOS like the kill switch. It also has less support than other platforms. However the application was working good and is very userfriendly. The security tips NordVPN provides in the iPad app and the direct customer support is a big plus!

Surfshark

The Surfshark VPN worked good. We tested the app with serveral streaming services, they all worked good except for Hayu. The speeds are very good and loading pages was very fast. We also liked the build in search engine feature to stay completely incognito. The Surfshark application has the kill switch and static IP and multihop functionality. However it performs not as good as ExpressVPN with streaming services and torrenting.

Overall conclusion
If we had to pick a favorite application we have to go with ExpressVPN because it has the most stable and fast VPN. Since iOS is not feature rich by nature the thing that counts the most is reliability, speed and accessability to resources.
